A COVID-19 outbreak at Revera Aspen Ridge seniors residence has resulted in two deaths, and the facility currently has 35 active cases, according to Alberta Health.

Both residents died earlier this week, the seniors residence confirmed in a statement Wednesday.

Alberta Health Services declared the outbreak on Feb. 1.

“As with any outbreak, health officials are working with the operator to ensure that mandatory protocols are implemented and all necessary steps taken to limit the spread and protect the health of residents and staff,” said Alberta Health.

“To help keep seniors safe, we are providing thousands of rapid tests to operators of all long-term care and supportive living facilities in Alberta to routinely screen their asymptomatic staff. To help reduce the potential spread between locations, workers in long-term care and supportive living sites are only allowed to work at one facility.”

On Tuesday, the province reported that a 80-year-old man who lived at the facility died on Feb. 28.

Since the outbreak began, 35 residents and nine staff have tested positive for COVID-19, Revera confirmed in a statement.

“We continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services officials and are following our pandemic outbreak protocols and infection control practices,” Revera said in a statement.

“An AHS Public Health team attended Aspen Ridge (Wednesday) to offer the first round of vaccine to eligible residents.”

The company said that residents are being isolated in their rooms and monitored for COVID-19 symptoms twice daily. All staff are being screened at the beginning and end of their shift and have to wear surgical masks in the residence at all times.
