Two people were taken to hospital as firefighters responded to a house fire in Riverside Meadows Sunday evening.

Crews were called to a house fire, shortly after 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of 52nd Avenue and 60th Street. On scene crews found the fire isolated to the second floor, partially engulfed in flames.

Firefighters battled the blaze and had it knocked down about an hour after their arrival on scene.

Two people inside the residence at the time of the fire were taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Bart Rowland, Red Deer Emergency Services deputy fire chief, said the fire is under investigation and it was too early to tell what caused it.

Seventeen firefighters responded, with a total of about 24 emergency services personnel on scene.
