A child is fighting for his life in Alberta Children’s Hospital after the car he was riding in collided with a grain swather near Penhold on Saturday evening.

Cam Heke, STARS Air Ambulance spokesperson, said STARS responded to a report of the collision on Hwy 592, about 5 kms west of Penhold around 8:01 p.m.

The youth, believed to be about 13 years old, was transported to the Calgary hospital by air ambulance.

Heke said the youth was in critical condition during the flight.

The boy’s mother was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre by ground ambulance.

No further details are available at this time on the condition of the youth, the mother or the driver of the farm equipment.
