Two martial arts events coming to Red Deer in 2023

Red Deer city council has green lighted two martial arts events for this city in the spring and fall.

Since the City of Red Deer does not have its own Combative Sports Commission, any promoter wishing to host an event in the city must first obtain city council’s permission.

The Havoc Fighting Championships and the Central Alberta Combative Sports Commission therefore asked for council’s approval to host two upcoming events in 2023.

They will be held at Westerner Park and consist of mixed martial artists meeting and competing. Havoc is in discussion with the Westerner for dates in April and November.

These competitions will attract martial artists from around Alberta to showcase their expertise, as well as generate revenue for the hotels, restaurants and retailers of Red Deer. They will be monitored by the Central Alberta Combative Sports Commission.

Council did not object to these events as it supports sport tourism in the city and was told that risks will be assumed by the promoter.
