Two men arrested in connection to Ponoka home invasion from 2017

Multiple charges faced by two suspects

Two people have been arrested in connection with a Ponoka home invasion that took place more than two years ago.

On June 24, 2017, Ponoka RCMP went to a residence in the Morningside area after a 911 call. On arrival, officers found two residents who had sustained minor injuries as a result of a fight that took place inside the home.

Investigation revealed five male suspects had entered the home with a firearm. They restrained the two victims and made off with five firearms, coins and a 1995 maroon Dodge Ram.

Ponoka RCMP believed at the time the victims were targeted.

This week, RCMP announced that Robert Handy, 29, of no fixed address, and Shawn Metzger, 37, of Red Deer, were jointly charged with 27 offences, including robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, forcible confinement and assault with a weapon.
