Two men charged with catalytic converter theft in central Alberta

Men arrested in Ponoka on Aug. 29 also in possession of stolen wiring, mail and vehicle battery

Ponoka RCMP have nabbed a couple of suspects in the theft of a catalytic converter.

Police were called about 6 p.m. on Sunday and found two suspects in a vehicle near 55th Street and 57th Avenue in Ponoka.

Both suspects were arrested without incident in relation to the theft of the catalytic converter and mischief to the vehicle.

Further investigation connected the suspects to the theft of mail from another vehicle. A search turned up two catalytic converters, coiled wiring and an electric vehicle battery.

A 35-year-old Wainwright man and a 31-year-old Lacombe man have been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of theft under $5,000.

Both have been released from custody and are due in Ponoka provincial court on Sept. 24.
