Two people killed in collision with construction equipment on Alberta highway

Two people have been killed in a crash involving a car and an earth mover on Highway 63 in northern Alberta.

FORT MCMURRAY — Two people have been killed in a crash involving a car and an earth mover on Highway 63 in northern Alberta.

RCMP say the collision happened late Tuesday night, about two kilometres north of a Fort McMurray-area industrial park.

Police say it appears the car failed to stop for a red light set up as part of a temporary traffic control system.

The driver of the car and a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene, but the operator of the earth mover was not hurt.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The highway was closed for a number of hours while police investigated.
