A pair of Red Deer homes were completely destroyed by separate fires over the past few days.
Red Deer Emergency Services was called to a house fire on Gish Street just after 6 p.m. on Sunday.
“We had three engines, a ladder truck, a command vehicle and an ambulance respond for the fire, so we had 19 staff on scene,” said Curtis Schaefer, RDES assistant deputy chief.
“Crews arrived to a fully-involved fire at the house. They had the ability to control the fire from the outside and stop it from spreading to any neighbouring houses.”
A section of Gish Street was closed as firefighters battled the blaze.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire, Schaefer said, adding no injuries related to the fire have been reported.
“The house is completely written off. The damage throughout the home was extensive,” he said.
RDES crews were on scene for about two hours.
On Monday evening, emergency services workers were once again dispatched to a reported structure fire on 37 Street.
The City of Red Deer tweeted just after 6 p.m., asking residents to stay clear of the area – the city also noted the street was closed between 44 Avenue and 45 Avenue.
Crew arrived to find a fully-involved fire in the main house and garage, Schaefer noted.
“We had five engines, one ladder tuck, command and one ambulance on scene for that fire,” he said.
“Crews were on scene for that fire for approximately three hours.”
Two people were evacuated from the home, but no injuries were reported.
“The garage and the home were too far damaged from the fire and will be written off,” he noted.
“It’s unfortunate for the homeowners (affected by both fires) to lose their homes.”
No cause has been determined for either fire. But investigators were working Tuesday to determine a cause.
