Two Sundre men have been charged with arson after a series of grass fires were lit on Thursday just south of Longview, south of Calgary.

Dale Aldrich, 21, and Marc Boulanger, 24, have been charged with four counts of arson after fireworks were discharged from a vehicle, igniting five grass fires shortly before noon.

No one was injured and no homes, farms or livestock were compromised either, Turner Valley RCMP stated.

A portion of the highway was closed as crews extinguished the blazes. It reopened at 4 p.m.

The men appeared before a justice of the peace and bail was set at $5,000 cash deposit. One of the men made bail on Thursday night, said Cpl. Tiffany McCregor with Turner Valley RCMP. She did not have an update on whether the second male was still in custody on Friday morning.

Both are scheduled to appear in Turner Valley provincial court on June 3.
