UBUNTU to host International Youth Day event

UBUNTU Youth Council will be hosting a food drive and event to celebrate International Youth Day.

Organizers will be collecting non-perishable food items between Aug. 9 to 14, at the Kaylor Building in Downtown Red Deer, on the second floor office number 27.

The group will also host an event in the Memorial Centre parking lot on Aug. 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., where they will also be accepting food donations.

The event will including a presentation from Red Deer’s Jaycee Bourke on “The Importance Of Equitable Food Systems”, Mike Kozlowski from Steel Pony Farms on “Food Sustainability”, Garrett Ingram from the Red Deer Native Friendship Society on “Foods That Are Sustainable During Winter Months” as well as performances by Red Deer Aboriginal Dance Troupe, a musical performance by Red Deer local artist TK and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

According to a press release, the event will be used to “stress the importance of working towards more equitable food systems and educating youth on choosing more healthy and sustainable food options”.
