A steel unicorn statue has been recovered damaged a day after it was stolen.

Drumheller RCMP got a report last Friday morning that the large stainless steel statue was stolen from the small community of Delia, about 50 km northeast of Drumheller.

The unicorn, known as a local landmark, stood 3.3 metres high and weighs about 270 kilograms. It is worth about $10,000.

Police believe that sometime between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Friday the culprits drove to Delia and loaded the statue in the box of a large utility truck.

The missing unicorn was found with its bronze horn broken off about 9 a.m. on Saturday in a field about 15 km from where it was stolen.

Drumheller RCMP have contacted RCMP forensic identification services investigators, but at this time no suspects have been identified.

If you can identify those involved or the vehicle used, please contact the Drumheller RCMP Detachment at 403-823-7590 or your local police.
