The United Way of Central Alberta and Nova Chemicals are celebrating a $10-million milestone.

The company held its first United Way campaign in 1995 at the Joffre site, raising just over $45,000.

That success jump-started 25 years of employee and retiree giving. Since it’s designated as Nova’s charity of choice, the company has matched the pledges.

In 1999, Nova introduced the United Way Day of Caring Program to its employees. Since then, its workers have contributed nearly 25,000 volunteer hours, with dozens of local agencies benefiting from their labour and expertise.

“While the time, effort, dedication and passion of our employee volunteers could never be truly reflected in a number, I applaud this $10-million achievement,” said Mark Hodson, Nova Chemicals’ Joffre site leader.

“We take pride in our employee commitment to the United Way Central Alberta,” said Jim Dixon, chair of the 2020 Nova United Way campaign.
