The United Way’s 2022 Campaign wrapped up with $1.56 million in donations and a local celebration at Bo’s Bar and Stage.

Despite an “extremely challenging economic environment,” over $1,563,000 was raised locally over the past year through workplace campaigns and individual donations, reported the non-profit umbrella group that funds many different local charities.

“These funds will provide much needed resources to our local social sector.”

United Way Central Alberta will also deliver $997,000 into the hands of non-profits and charities across the region as part of the federal government Community Services Recovery Fund (CSRF).

Applications are currently being reviewed, with funds to be distributed in July.

Three local workplaces were recognized for raising the most dollars this year for United Way Central Alberta: NOVA Chemicals at Joffre, MEGlobal at Prentiss, and the INEOS Canada Partnership at Joffre.

Other recognition was given to Dow Canada’s Prentiss Site, Kayle Yonkman of MEGlobal at Prentiss, Scott Builders Inc. COSMOS Red Deer, Central Alberta Co-op Ltd. and MNP LLP accountants.
