Updated: Pedestrian killed on highway east of Innisfail in hit and run Thursday morning

Innisfail RCMP said a man walking along a highway east of Innisfail was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Thursday morning.

Police were called about 8:15 a.m. to a fatal collision on Highway 590 near the intersection with Highway 805, about 22 km east of Innisfail. Responding officers and EMS found the body of a man in the south ditch.

The victim, dressed in black clothing, had been walking west on the highway and was last seen alive about 6:30 a.m. Sometime between then and around 8:10 a.m. he was struck and killed by a vehicle believed to have been travelling east on Highway 590.

RCMP investigators were still on scene Thursday afternoon and are looking to speak to any drivers that were in the area at the time who may be able to provide information.

“Specifically investigators are interested in any dash camera footage that may exist from drivers that were in the area at that time,” said RCMP in a news release.

“Based on initial evidence obtained at the scene, RCMP believe that the vehicle involved is a 2019 or older Chevrolet or GMC 2500 or 3500 HD pickup. The vehicle will have damage to its passenger side.”

The identity of the victim has not been released.
