Vandals damaged “major infrastructure” at the site of a Sylvan Lake water main repair.

Damage was done to above ground temporary services to some town residences. These were put into place to service some homes while the town’s main water line were shut down for repairs, said Sylvan Lake spokesperson Joanne Gaudet.

The vandalism cut off the water to some of these buildings and put the bypass line (temporary replacement of the main line) at risk.

Town residents are asked to contact the Sylvan lake Public Works department (403-887-2800) if they experience low water pressure or water discolouration as a result.

Works crews were at the site of the vandalism on 50th Street on Thursday, and were working to restore affected services and to continue repairing the water main leak.

The vandalism has been reported to Sylvan Lake RCMP, which is investigating.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the site on the night of May 10, or into the early hours of May 11, is asked to call Crimestoppers or the Sylvan Lake RCMP detachment.
