A Stettler man who hitched a ride was packing a firearm.

On Dec. 10, at about 10:10 a.m., Stettler RCMP received a complaint of an armed robbery. The victim had provided the suspect with a ride to the Stettler area, where he pulled out a gun, told the victim to leave on foot, and stole the vehicle.

The victim was not injured during the encounter.

An investigation by the Stettler and Red Deer RCMP detachments concluded a 21-year-old Stettler man was responsible for the incident.

Lacombe police located the victim’s vehicle and arrested the suspect, who was in possession of it, on Dec. 13.

The accused was charged with robbery with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and other offences.

The suspect was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody pending a court appearance Jan. 7.
