Video: Blackfalds RCMP arrest man in stolen van

A 25-year-old man is in custody and facing 18 charges after stealing a van from a senior’s complex.

Early Tuesday morning, Blackfalds RCMP responded to a 911-complaint about a theft in progress in Gasoline Alley and they attempted to arrest the man.

He did not comply, even after officers deployed a Taser, and then he fled northbound in a stolen F350 handi-van.

After driving the wrong way on the off ramp, the pursuit led into the city of Red Deer. The vehicle was stopped by a spike belt on Metcalfe Avenue.

Officers broke the window of the van to remove the suspect from the vehicle.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing. Some of the charges he faces include theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace office and operation of a vehicle while impaired by drugs.

The end of the incident was caught on video by Facebook user Brian Frank.
