Walls and Whispers is a glazed stoneware and photograph piece by Eva Lapka from 2004, and part of the Walls and Whispers exhibit at the bilton contemporary art gallery, on display until Oct. 17. The piece is composed of photos of old walls in Prague, walls filled with history, and of heads emerging from these walls, heads turned towards each other, whispering. One is immediately made aware that Eva Lapka, a Czech-born artist now residing in Montreal, spent both her childhood and adolescence within the confines of communism, an era that had ears, and fears of denunciation made silence imperative.
