Weather hits Westerner Days attendance numbers

Westerner Days Fair and Exposition drew solid crowds but attendance was down from last year.

Dodgy weather was to blame, with spells of rain on many days, including a torrential downpour that swept through late Sunday afternoon.

“I was on site with my family and we barely made it into the petting zoo on time,” said Erin Gobolos, Westerner Park marketing manager.

The final count for this year’s Westerner was 92,872, well short of the 2012 record of 102,665. Numbers also fell short of last year’s count of 95,488.

Despite the slightly lower attendance, fair organizers were pleased with this year’s version.

Among the changes that went over well with the public this year were free evening concerts at the Centrium with gate admission. That promotion could be coming back next year.
