West Park homeowners alerted to planned power outage on Tuesday

City of Red Deer is upgrading electrical equipment in West Park area

Some West Park residents will get a brief taste of life in the pre-electricity era on Tuesday.

Power will be turned off from 1 to 4 p.m. while crews work to upgrade electrical equipment in the area. The affected customers will be notified directly, and signage will be in place in the area reminding residents of the outage.

The affected areas include: Wiltshire Boulevard, Warwick Drive, Wiltshire Place and Welton Crescent.

The city offers some tips to those who will be affected.

•Turn off appliances and unplug all sensitive electronic equipment. Keep one light switch turned on so you know when the power comes back on.

•Think safety. Do not bring your gas or charcoal barbecue indoors. Be careful with candles.

•Consider food safety during a power outage. If the freezer door is left closed, food can stay frozen for many hours (12 to 48 hours depending on how full the freezer is and what kind of food is stored there). Most food will keep in the fridge for 24 hours. Dairy products, however, should be discarded after six hours.

The service interruption is necessary for system maintenance and safety.
