Fire crews are battling a wildfire burning out of control within Crimson Lake Provincial Park, 100 kms northwest of Red Deer.

Residents in the area were put on an evacuation alert Saturday afternoon. The alert was lifted Sunday.

Barry Shellian, Sustainable Resource Development wildfire ranger and information officer in the Clearwater Management Forest area, said the fire has currently spanned 78 hectares to west and within the park.

“We have manpower and resources on the fire,” said Shellian. “With assistance from Clearwater Regional Fire Services, we are expecting no more forward spread.”

No structures are in danger and there has been no loss to homes or other structures.

Crews are currently reinforcing the fire lines in efforts to get the fire under control.

“We are hoping with current resources that we have we hope to have the status moving to under control to being held,” said Shellian. “If the weather and resources don’t change that there will be no more forward spread.”

On scene are wildfire crews from Rocky Mountain House and Calgary, a helicopter, a water truck and other fire fighting equipment.
