The wildfire danger in Rocky Mountain House Forest Area climbed back up to high on Tuesday as efforts to put out the wildfire west of Nordegg continued.

But a mandatory evacuation order issued by Clearwater County was lifted and replaced with an evacuation alert for Snow Creek, Dry Haven, Fish Lake and Goldeye Lake provincial recreation areas, Frontier Lodge, and the Centre for Outdoor Education.

An evacuation alert means residents and visitors in the areas should be packed and prepared to leave on short notice should the wildfire status change. This evacuation alert will remain in place until further wildfire control and containment is achieved.

The evacuation alert for Nordegg was previously lifted.

The wildfire, discovered July 19 about 19-km west of Nordegg in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, remained classified as being held at 507 hectares.

Haven Road and area remains closed to public access to allow for continued safe firefighting operations.

On Tuesday there were 73 wildland firefighters, including some from British Columbia, and 11 helicopters bucketing the wildfire. Heavy equipment and workers were also on site building a fire guard.

Helicopters, heavy equipment, and wildland firefighters will continue fighting the fire on Wednesday when temperatures could reach 27 C, with winds from the southeast at 10 km/h.

Bull dozers will work along the southeast and southwest edges of the fire.
