Wildlife art, ‘soul’ paintings can be seen in February’s First Friday gallery openings

Alberta landscapes and “soul” paintings can be seen — along with some quirkier fare — at Red Deer’s First Friday gallery receptions for February.

Alberta landscapes and “soul” paintings can be seen — along with some quirkier fare — at Red Deer’s First Friday gallery receptions for February.

The nature art of Marlene Kallstrom-Barritt is being spotlighted at the Riverlands Studio and Gallery at 5123-48th Street until Feb. 25. Viewers will also see landscape and water paintings by gallery owner Carol Lynn Gilchrist. A First Friday reception will be held Feb. 4 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Margaret Hall’s felted/crochet-ed, mixed-media exhibit How Does Your Garden Grow will continue at the Kiwanis Gallery in the Red Deer’s downtown public library until Feb. 27. A First Friday reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Peter Caden’s optical and geometric works can be seen in the show Rhythm and Hues, continuing at the Viewpoint Gallery in the City of Red Deer’s Arts and Culture Services building until Feb. 25. A First Friday reception will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. with an artist’s talk at 6:30 p.m.

Three-dimensional sculptures by BPV Art is being exhibited at the Velvet Olive Lounge, with a First Friday reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

Photographer Arto Djerdjerian’s Ya Ha Tinda — The Ranch show continues at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery until March 12. There will be a First Friday reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

Also showing at local shops and galleries:

• Colourful nature paintings by Amanda Frost are showing at Curiosity Art and Framing, unit 4, 4676-61st St.

• Soul Dreams, acrylic and mixed-media works by Raevyn Berg are showing until Feb. 28 at A-plus Art Gallery and Unique Collections, Unit 203, 4919-49th St. until Feb. 28.

• Persistent Creativity Everyday: A whimsical Journey, mixed-media works by Beth Richardson are showing in the Corridor Community Gallery in the Red Deer Recreation Centre.

• Original art can also be seen at the Artribute Art School, Marjorie Wood Gallery in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, and the Knock Knock Gallery, Room 2925 in Red Deer Polytechnic.
