Environment Canada issued a wind warning for central Alberta that will continue throughout the day on Monday.

At 7:48 a.m., Airdrie Rural RCMP advised the public of dangerous driving conditions after a semi rollover on Highway 2 at Highway 72.

Traffic was backed up in both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 2.

Police said road conditions were very slippery and winds were very high.

Strong northwesterly winds will gust between 90 and 100 km/h, and there is significant risk of damaging winds.

Falling snow in combination with these winds may lead to poor visibility in blowing snow.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

These strong winds are expected to ease early this evening.

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools cancelled school bus service on Monday due to poor visibility and wind.

All rural ( Red Deer County) school buses are cancelled, but the schools are open.

Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Olds, and Innisfail school buses are cancelled, however the schools are opened.
