Tim Heslop of the City of Red Deer’s Recreation, Parks and Culture Department topples a tree stump above the Wishart Trail in the Gaetz Lake Sanctuary. The popular ring trail from the Kerry Wood Nature Centre was closed after a mud slide toppled numerous trees on the east side beneath Michener Centre north grounds. Once unstable trees have been removed, Environmental Services workers will fill and cover the slide’s hole and then replant over top it next spring. The trail is expected to re-open on Monday.
