Central Alberta police forces were involved in an intense search for two people Tuesday afternoon after a witness to an assault was shot at.

On Tuesday at about noon Stettler RCMP responded to a complaint along Secondary Highway 601 north of Stettler after the witness saw a female being violently assaulted by a male.

The female was forced back into a vehicle, which sped east on the highway. During the incident a handgun was discharged in the direction of the witness, who was not injured.

Surrounding RCMP and nearby municipal police assisted with roadblocks and patrols in efforts to locate the vehicle, believed to be a late model maroon red two-door car, a Dodge/Chrysler product, perhaps a Challenger, Charger or model of similar appearance.

The male suspected of the assault is described as being in his late 20s, with a light complexion, light brown hair with a goatee, and wearing a black hoodie with white markings on it.

Neither the vehicle, suspect or the assault victim were located.

Anyone with any information that would assist in this investigation is asked to call their local police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or send an email to www.tipsubmit.com.
