Woman dead and child seriously injured: SUV collides with train near Wetaskiwin

A woman is dead and a child was seriously injured after a train collided with an SUV on Sunday afternoon near Wetaskiwin.

A woman is dead and a child was seriously injured after a train collided with an SUV on Sunday afternoon near Wetaskiwin.

RCMP said the collision happened about 3:50 p.m. near Highway 2A and Township Road 470 about six km northwest of Wetaskiwin.

Police said the SUV was travelling westbound on Township Road 470 when it collided with a northbound train at a crossing.

The female driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A child in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to an Edmonton hospital.

Wetaskiwin RCMP along with Canadian Pacific Railway police continue to investigate this collision.

The name of the deceased is not being released.
