A 54-year-old woman is in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 2 near Red Deer early Saturday morning.

At about 3:30 a.m., Blackfalds RCMP officers responded to the reported collision north of the 32 Street overpass. Police say the woman was reportedly walking on the highway when struck by a vehicle.

The highway remained closed for a period of time while RCMP investigated, but it has since been reopened.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was uninjured. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, police said.

The woman was transported to a hospital. She is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
