Woman seriously injured in rollover near Olds during thunderstorm

Two passengers taken to Didsbury hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

A woman was seriously injured when her vehicle rolled near Olds during a severe thunderstorm Wednesday night.

Olds RCMP said emergency first responders were called at about 8:45 p.m. to the collision on Township Road 3-20 off Highway 2A.

Police said the sport utility vehicle with three occupants rolled after it left the highway, sheering off a power pole.

The driver was found unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle. She was taken to Didsbury hospital and then airlifted by STARS air ambulance to a larger facility.

The two passengers were taken to Didsbury hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 2A was closed for three hours near the Olds/Didsbury airport while the scene was cleared.

RCMP believe severe weather to be a contributing factor to the crash.
