Construction of the new courthouse in downtown Red Deer was visible Thursday morning when workers were busy getting a tall crane in place.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Red Deer Justice Centre, located next to Sorenson Station, was in September.

The 29,000-square-metre facility will include modern technology. It will include 16 courtrooms – 12 will be fully built for immediate use and four will be roughed-in for future use.

The new facility will replace the existing courthouse. Anticipated completion for the project is spring 2023.
