Worker seriously injured after train hits loader

A 44-year-old man was flown to hospital by STARS, in serious, but stable condition after a train struck a loader working on rail construction north of Innisfail.

A 44-year-old man was flown by Stars Air Ambulance in serious, but stable condition after a train struck a loader working on rail construction north of Innisfail.

Innisfail RCMP were called to the crash shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday near Hwy 2A and Range Road 362. Police said a southbound Canadian Pacific Rail train had struck a loader working on the rail construction in the area.

The man was unconscious and trapped in the service vehicle and the Innisfail Fire department and EMS removed him before he was airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

The collision is still under investigation and no charges have been laid.
