Wrong-way pickup crashes into semi on Hwy 2 near Lacombe

A pickup truck travelling the wrong way down Hwy 2 collided head-on with a semi trailer near Lacombe early Friday morning.

Blackfalds RCMP said that at about 5 a.m., a southbound pickup collided with a northbound semi hauling two empty fuel tankers.

The pickup ended up in the east ditch of Hwy 2, adjacent to Alberta Downs horse race track. The driver was found outside the vehicle and was transported to Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi trailer was shaken up but did not suffer any injuries.

The collision shut down northbound lanes of Hwy 2 from the Blackfalds overpass until about 11 a.m.

Blackfalds RCMP are investigating.
