Red Deer’s new Northside Community Centre opens July 2

Red Deerians have long been anticipating the opening of the municipally owned Northside Community Centre, located in the Glendale area.

The YMCA will open July 2 with summer day camps for children and youth ages three to 16 and a teen night for youth ages 13 to 18 on Fridays.

Starting Aug. 1, Red Deerians can enjoy group fitness classes with childminding available, gather with friends at open gym time, or drop in to the youth centre.

The YMCA will be adding more programs and services this fall.

“It is an immense honour to have this opportunity to serve and support Red Deer’s families and communities,” said YMCA of Northern Alberta president and CEO Nick Parkinson.

“The YMCA looks forward to working with residents and community groups to offer programs, services and an approach that is inclusive to all and fosters a sense of well-being within the community.”

The facility includes a multi-purpose space that can act as both a gymnasium and special event centre, culture programming space and flexible office/meeting rooms.

It also features a fitness studio, kitchen teaching space, interactive technology and a play area.
