Police are looking for a tall, skinny man alleged to have tried to abduct a young girl in Red Deer at about noon on Thursday.

Const. Chris Kosack, media liaison for the Red Deer City RCMP, said a man wearing a black balaclava approached the girl while she was walking on 60th Street between 55th and 56th Avenues at about 12:40 p.m.

The girl told police the man told her he was supposed to pick her up. She fled to a nearby residence, said Kosack.

Investigators are withholding the child’s age, saying only that she is under 10, to protect her identity, he said.

Police are looking for a suspect described as about 1.88 metres tall (six feet, two inches), skinny, with hazel eyes.

He was wearing a black balaclava, black shirt and dark blue jeans.

Anyone who can help track down the suspect is asked to call the Red Deer City RCMP, 403-343-3375. To remain anonymous, submit information online to www.tipsubmit.com or call Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477.
