Bottles for a Brighter Christmas runs until Sunday, Jan. 3, to raise money for the Red Deer Christmas Bureau. Parkland Mall, Coca-Cola and Big 105 FM are holding the bottle drive at Cosmos I, located at 7428 49th Ave., and Cosmos II, at 6332 Orr St.

Too many children not ready for school: study

Preliminary findings from a local study suggest 17.8 per cent of children in Red Deer start kindergarten without being developmentally ready in at least one area.Although lower than the national average, the study’s project co-ordinator says the number is still too high.

Several snow plows take over 32nd Street Saturday, as City of Red Deer crews work to keep up with past weeks’ worth of snow. Nearly 30 cm of snow was dumped on Central Alberta in a little over a week, leaving the city crews to play catchup. But Central Albertans may have a bit of a rest from their shovelling and plowing as very little snow is expected to fall over the next few days.
