1923-2020 ~ Our mom Aafje was born in Andijk, Netherlands in 1923, the fourth of nine children. She married Jan (John) Kooiman July 1, 1948, and they immigrated to Canada in 1949, eventually settling in Red Deer.
Mom's richest blessing was her eight children, their spouses, 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was humble, wise and known as an attentive listener; guided by a motto of "there are those who talk, but they need those who listen."
Mom is survived by Alice/Ali (Ed) Tiemstra, Evelyn (Brian) Martin, Peter, Paulene (Don) Kamps, Ruth, Miriam (Erick) Jentink, Frank (Donna), David (Cheryl) and their extended families.
She was predeceased by her husband Jan, grandson Nigel, and five siblings. Mom's prayer to die at home in the presence of family was answered on November 4. Her life will be honoured with a private service of remembrance. Extended obituary available at meaningfulmemorials.ca
