August 31, 2006

AELLEN 1912 - 2006 May Aellen died peacefully in Calgary on August 24, 2006 at the age of 93. She was born in Calgary, the second of six children born to Robert, from Saanen, Switzerland and Emily (Novis), from Tunbridge Wells, England. Prior to WWII, May worked in Calgary as a housekeeper to an army physician and his family and, when he was posted to Ottawa as a Colonel, she went with them, returning to Calgary in 1952 to care for her ailing mother. She joined Imperial Life as a secretary and remained there until her retirement in 1977. May was a devoted daughter and family member. She was a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and was very active, participating in and serving the church. She particularly enjoyed her JOY group (Just Older Youth). May is survived by her brother Jim Aellen of Red Deer and sister Roberta Urton of Jasper. Also surviving her are 10 nieces and nephews: Robert Aellen, Linda Howell, Donald Aellen, Ron Urton, Kenneth Urton, Jackie Urton, Fred Winnick, Laura Novikoff, Jim Winnick and Bob Winnick, along with their families. She was predeceased by brother Robert, sisters Rosie and Ivy, niece Barbara Winnick and nephew Norman Winnick. May Aellen was a quiet, caring, thankful and devoted Christian who lived her values and beliefs. The world is a better place because of her journey here. A celebration of May's life was held on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at Crescent Heights Baptist Church in Calgary.
