After PECK

November 24, 2008

PECK After a long illness, on Tuesday November 18, 2008. Elizabeth Peck passed away. Born on January 26, 1923 in Innisfail, Elizabeth is survived by her husband. She is predeceased by her parents, Ian and Maude Robinson and her brother Johnny and sister Dianna. Elizabeth carried the full family name of Elisabeth Emily Maude Carr Robinson. Elizabeth and Albert were married on August 8, 1945 and lived the majority of their 63 years together in the Red Deer area. She is also survived by her four sons; Alec (Lorraine) Peck, Robin (Meg) Peck, Dennis (Robin) Peck, Bill (Kelly) Peck. Elizabeth's family, the Robinson's, moved to the Innisfail area in 1902 after her father had already homesteaded the farm several years prior (the farm is still in the family). Mrs. Peck was an avid naturalist and conservationalist. A woman who contributed to the community of Red Deer in many ways. For many years she and her husband were an emergency foster home that served as a temporary shelter for numerous children. A service that the Province recognized many years later for the special contribution it made. Elizabeth had a long career at the Mitchner Centre. She began her career by working with veterans of the Second World War who were dealing with the trauma of the event. Her long interest in the care of the patients is long remembered by her colleagues and friends. Her love of horses, dogs, cats and birds on the farm was complimented by her long hours in the flower garden. Her genuine interest in the lives of others led her to open her heart and home to many immigrant families. Elizabeth's love of animals was evident in the occasional auction purchase of a horse to save it and give it an easy living life on the farm, never to see a saddle again. On Saturday November 22, 2008, between the hours of 2 and 4 pm., an afternoon tea will be held at Club Sierra, (3100-22 Street, Red Deer) for family and friends of Elizabeth. Elizabeth requested no flowers or gifts. If desired, contributions may be made to the Red Deer Naturalist Society in her name. At her request there will be no funeral ceremony.
