Albert was born and raised in Leslieville Alberta. At a very young age he moved away from the farm to start building his own identity in life. He teamed up with Carl Carstensen, who later turned out to be Al's very best friend in life. They did many different jobs, from working at logging and lumber plants to working in the oil patch. They both then found their first career by becoming carpenters while working for Carl's father, Fritz. While working in Red Deer, Al met and married his first wife, Donna May. Al moved his family to Calgary, where he worked as a Carpentry Foreman and later Superintendent for Poole Construction. Al was proud to be the youngest construction foreman for Poole at age 21 and remained dedicated to his craft throughout the years. Al had a goal in life, to have his own business and be his own boss. He started the company Cal Portisan Service Ltd. while working full-time at Poole Construction. He was a man that was not afraid of hard work. Over the years Al had a love for life and work; in both of these areas he never stopped or gave up. Family and friends meant a lot to Al and he loved to sit around at supper or maybe at the campfire and debate almost any subject that came up, and he didn't care which side he was on and wasn't always politically correct. Over his lifetime Al accomplished success in various companies: Cal Portisan Service Ltd., Cascade (partner), Calgary Fireplace, Poor Boy Construction, Arctic Fireplace, Mr. Fireplace, Big Boy Truck Wash, A.S. Eide Investments, Precision Gas Technologies (partner), and Viking Gas Technologies. Al's love of old cars turned out to be his pride and joy car collection that he loved to show people. Al had many interests including the Arizona Desert, travelling the highways in his Prevost which he custom-designed, his tea roses, woodworking, community functions. Al was a founding member of the Southview Community Association in Forest Lawn.
