Albert

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Joseph (Bert) Lachance at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on February 10, 2014 at the age of 85. Bert was born in Alliance, Alberta on May 30, 1928 to Alexander and Mamie Lachance. He is survived by three children: Gerry (Shirley) of Medicine Hat, Bryan of Edmonton and Kevin (Juanita) of Edmonton, three step children: Kevin (Janice) of Blackfalds, Scott (Vicki Lee) of Sylvan Lake, and Beth (Monty) of Penticton. Bert is also survived by sisters Mary (Ray), Theresa, Betty (Fred), brother; John, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant son Darrell, his beloved wife Marion, his brother Donald, and his sister Joan. Bert was a man of many talents who worked hard all of his life. He was a welder by trade and spent many years in the oil and gas industry across Canada, making many friends and earning respect wherever he went. Bert was a savvy businessman and was involved in operating both partnerships and independent oilfield consulting companies. He also managed to find time for his many interests; which included fishing, hunting, judo, flying, dabbling in the stock market, and wheeling and dealing on vehicles and RVs. Bert loved to travel south for the winter with Marion, and, in more recent years, visit his many friends and family members in his "boogie van". Bert lived in many places across Canada and had many fond memories and friendships from time spent in Edmonton, Calgary, Quebec, Radium, Rocky Mountain House, Sylvan Lake and Red Deer. A memorial service for Bert will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer, at 1:00 pm on Saturday February 15, 2014. Interment will take place at Trochu Cemetery in the spring or early summer, details to be announced by the family at a later date. Memorial donations in Bert's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 101- 6751-52 Avenue, Red Deer AB, T4N 4K8 or to the Canadian Red Cross, 105-5301 43 St, Red Deer AB T4N 1C8.
