AHRENS Alfred Richard "Alf" 1947 – 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and very unexpected passing of Alf on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at his home in Poplar Ridge. Alf spent almost his entire life in the Red Deer area. He grew up on the Twin Oak Dairy Farm in the Crossroads area that is now Glendale. He attended Crossroads, Central, River Glen and Lindsay Thurber Composite High School. He was very active in 4-H activities, curling and showing cattle, winning many awards. After finishing high school Alf went to the Arctic including Ellesmere Island to work in the extended oil patch. Alf and his brother Lou formed a partnership involving a farm in the Haynes area including a custom haying operation. In the winter of 1972 he joined Westward Parts, continuing there until his passing. In 1979 Alf married Lois (Farrington) of the Alhambra district, establishing their home in Poplar Ridge Estates. A shop followed where Alf assembled smaller agricultural equipment, all the while enjoying the company of friends and associates. Alf enjoyed the outdoors and especially traveling in their motorhome, one highlight of which was a trip to Alaska last summer. There were yearly conventions across the U.S. and trips to England and Mexico involving the farm machinery business. Alf was predeceased by his parents Hans (1968) and Irma (1996).
