Alfred Matson of Red Deer, Alberta, formerly of Bluffton, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Alfred was born on December 30, 1922 to Charles and Anna Matson, and grew up in the Iola District. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1944 to 1946 and served overseas. In 1949, he was united in marriage to Hannah Neufeld of Didsbury, and together they farmed in Iola until 1973. Alfred and his family then moved to Bluffton and established and operated "Whispering Hope", a home for handicapped children. For over twenty years they loved and cared for over fifty children with special needs. In 2003, Alfred and Hannah retired and relocated to Red Deer. Alfred will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife, Hannah; his children: Dennis (Rachel) Matson of Boyle, Alberta; Doris (Art) Fleming of Wallace, Idaho; Wayne (Elizabeth) Matson of Red Deer; Cindy (Bob) McColm of Lloydminster; Myron Matson of Red Deer; Collette Miller of Wetaskiwin; and Jenine Matson of Red Deer; his son-in-law, Rick Goings of Newfoundland; as well as nineteen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two brothers, Bill Matson of Bluffton; and Charlie Matson of Vancouver, B.C.; in addition to many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Alfred was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Anna; his daughter, Joyce Goings; infant twins; his brothers, Oscar and Otto; and his sisters, Fanny Matson, Betty Daniluk, and Esther Soderberg. A Public Funeral Service in Alfred's Honour will be held at the Hoadley Evangelical Missionary Church, Hoadley on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Barry Klassen and Pastor Ken Lehman officiating. A Family Interment will precede the Funeral Service in the Hoadley Cemetery, Hoadley.
