1944 - 2009
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Allen Powell on Monday, November 16th, 2009 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 65 years. Allen was born in Delburne, AB on June 4, 1944, and was believed to be the last baby born in Delburne, at the residence of Nurse Little. He grew up on a farm about four miles east of Delburne, and would later purchase the farm from his parents and raise his family there, until his retirement in 2004. Allen's interests included hunting, curling, baseball and hockey, as well as coaching his sons' teams. Playing cards into the late hours of the night was also a favourite pastime. Allen was an avid cattleman, participating with his children's 4-H Club for 10 years. Allen will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years and best friend Diana, three sons; Richard (Ginger), Roger (Katrin), and Bruce. Also left to cherish warm memories of Allen are his grandchildren; Calvin and Mirrabella, brother; Robert (Delores), sister; Lorie, sister-in-law; Gail , his special caregiver; Rose Gazo, as well as all other extended family and friends. Allen was predeceased by his mother Olive, father Jack and brother Harold. A special "thank-you" goes out to Dr. Elliot for his care and compassion and to all the extraordinary staff on Units 33 and 35 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital who always went above and beyond in their care for Allen. A Celebration of Life for the Late Mr. Allen Powell will be held on Friday, November 20th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Delburne Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Allen's name may be made directly to "Unit 35" (Rehabilitation Unit) at the Red Deer Regional Hospital (Unit 35, c/o Red Deer Regional Hospital, Bag 5030, Red Deer, AB T4N 6R2).
