In loving memory ~
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Alvin (Al) Coker at the age of 86. Al passed peacefully and bravely at the Chinook Hospice in Calgary on Wednesday, December 14th, with his wife and daughter by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Lorraine and his children Loretta (Tim), Roger (Mandi) and Teresa (KC) his grandchildren Jessica (Chris), Alexandra and Taylor and his great-grandchildren Raiden and Jonah. He is also survived by 5 of his siblings and many nieces and nephews. Al was born and raised in Huntsville, Ontario, in a big family where he was one of 14 children.
He joined the RCMP in 1956 and trained in Ottawa and was then transferred to Alberta where he met Lorraine. They moved back to Ottawa in 1961 where they lived for the next 20 years until he retired from the force. They then moved back to Red Deer where Al was a County of Red Deer peace officer until 1996 when he officially retired at the age of 60. He then enjoyed travelling, winters down south and dancing with their group. He volunteered and worked with many community organizations.
Al was diagnosed with neurological dementia several years ago and has been declining since. They had recently moved to a retirement home in Calgary to make life easier.
There will be a celebration of life in Al's honour to be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer's Society.
