Ann lived a life of gratitude and grace. She passed peacefully with her family at her side. Ann was born in Lika, Croatia. She lost her dear mother at 6, then was raised by her loving grandmother until she was 11 when she travelled to Canada by ship to join her father, Steve Pesut, who she had not seen in 10 years as he had moved to Canada to make a better life for his wife and daughter. It's hard to imagine the strength she needed for that journey. Ann's dad was a wonderful man, and the two became a strong and loving family. They also kept in contact with, and visited their Croatian family. Ann's children continue this connection to this day.
Nick and Ann were married in 1945, and their dream was to have a big family. They were blessed with six children: Stephen, Mary-Ann (Brian), Jeanie(Ed), Nicholas (Colleen), Rosie (Al), Lorna (Al); five grandchildren: Jenna (Josh), Jacinta, Rebecca, Whitney (Devin), Keegan; and six great grandchildren: Alexis, Piper, Hudson, Scarlett, Carson, Jasper. Ann was a role model to all of them, she was always there for family. Her most important legacy is the way they each reflect her love, and carry within them her values, lessons, hopes, and dreams. Nick and Ann were married for 75 years. She would say she would like 75 more. Ann and Nick often said "we had a good life and we're proud of our family."
Together with Ann's father, Nick and Ann cleared land and created a farm outside of Rycroft. Her warmth, kindness and hospitality extended to friends, neighbors and others who would stop by the farm. She always had the coffee pot on and delicious baking and cooking on the table. A few of her specialties were pie, bread, donuts, and cookies.
Even through her struggles with dementia in her three last years, she always expressed her gratitude to those who cared for her. We would like especially to thank Dr. Eva Kitagawa and Dr. Jim McIntyre for their compassionate care; Father Mirek Kostarzewski for his blessings and comfort; and the special staff at Lakeview (Clairmont) and Villa Marie (Red Deer) who cared for mom like family. Ann's sweetness and love touched all who knew her.
Ann is deeply missed by Nick and her family. She was predeceased by her eldest son Stephen and her son-in-law Ed. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In honour of Ann, express your gratitude to someone, spend time with your family, or do a good deed.
