Anne Marlene Mickey January 7, 1960 - March 28, 2009 Anne was born in Rimbey and grew up on the family farm where she loved to ride horses. She attended her schooling in Rimbey, Red Deer College and the University of Victoria. She took an exchange teaching position in Nice France and in 1990 started as English Professor at the University of Southern Europe, it Monaco where she later attained the position of Director of Admissions, Undergraduate Studies and of International Programs. Anne had a passion for travel and love of the cinema, music, ballet,theatre and opera. Her travels took her to many places around the world, where she visited various museums and exhibitions. She loved to have her friends and relatives visit her and to be the great tour guide that she was. Anne was predeceased by her Mother Cecelia (Marchildon) and Father William (Bill) Mickey, Sister Catherine and Brother Patrick. She is survived by her Brother Tom (Mary) Whitehorse, Keith, Calgary, Sister, Judy Prince George several cousins, nieces & nephews and the many friends, students and associates that she touched all over the world. Anne truly was a people person and she lived every moment of the day, week and year like it was her last. Anne put 98 years into her short 49 years with love and grace. When diagnosed with cancer she knew that: Cancer was limited. It could not cripple her love, It could not shatter her hope, It could not corrode her faith, It could not destroy peace, It could not kill friendship, It could not suppress memories, It could not silence courage, It could not invade the soul, It could not steal eternal life, It could not conquer the spirit, Anne's positive attitude, courage and fight was never ending and her memories live on with all of us that knew her. The family requests that any kindness to an expression of sympathy be given in Anne's memory to the Rimbey Hospital. Special thanks to Anne’s close friends that were with her and comforted her in the last months of her life. And to Jean Keetch, her child hood neighbour and life long friend who was by her side at the end, the Mickey Family thanks you. A memorial service and celebration of life for Anne Marlene Mickey will be held at the Rimbey United Church July 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM.
