Anthonia BESUIJEN

September 4, 2008

BESUIJEN (nee Haspels) Anthonia (Toni) Aug. 12, 1936 - Aug. 28, 2008 It is with great sorrow that we, as a family, have to say goodbye to our mother, grandmother (Oma) and great-grandmother, Anthonia (Toni) Besuijen at the young age of 72 years old. Mom was born in Hoofdorp, the Netherlands to Abraham and Margareta Haspels. Mom met dad (Willem) when she was thirteen and they were married five years later on November 11, 1954. After the birth of their first child in 1955, they embarked on a lifelong adventure to Canada in 1956 and in 1965, we became Canadian citizens. Over the next few years, three more children were embraced. Family gatherings were important to both parents and the grandchildren were a source of pride to their grandparents. In 1996, we lost our dad whom mom loved deeply and grieved deeply for. After his death, she was never the same person and we have missed her laughter. She has now embarked on a new adventure and we believe she is reunited with dad whom she missed so much. Toni is survived by her children: Jozina, Edward (Janet), Tim (Malanie), and Ron (Brenda); thirteen grandchildren and four great-children. She was looking forward to the birth of her fourteenth grandchild due in December. She is also survived by her mother, Margareta Haspels; her sisters: Dini (Jac), Corrie (Bert); brothers: Kees (Nannie), Ton (Adela); as well as dad's brothers and sister: Bram (Nel), Ko (Truus), Adrie (Eggie), Jacomien (Willem) all of the Netherlands and Hank (Margaret) of Barrhead; nieces, nephews and their children. She also is survived by her special friend, Ed. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Willem, her father, brother Klaas, and granddaughter Elizabeth. A celebratory service of Toni's life will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation. A private family burial service will be held at Alix Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that mom's memory be honored through donations to the Bentley Care Center, Alix Free Evangelical Church or a charity of your choice. Expressions of sympahty may be forwarded to wfch@telusplanet.net subject Besuijen. Edward has made a special request that everyone attending bring a ceramic/ pottery rabbit to the service in memory of mom.
