Ashley CHANTLER

CHANTLER Ashley passed away on September 7, 2007 at Valley Park Manor at the age of 77, in the loving arms of his family, after a long courageous battle with Lewy Body Disease. Ash was born in Bruno, SK on June 7, 1930. He grew up on the family farm with his five sisters and one brother. At the age of twenty-five he left the farm to further his career. Moving to Saskatoon he worked first for Quaker Oats and then began his 23 year career with Intercontinental Packers with positions of salesman and office manager. After closure of Red Deer plant he worked for Red Cal Industries as bookkeeper, retiring in 1996. In 1959 Ash married the love of his life Hazel (Geall), They lived in Saskatoon, Wainwright before settling in Red Deer in 1963. Ash had many leisure interests, camping, fishing, curling, golfing, dancing, gardening, and socializing with family and friends. Ash and Hazel enjoyed many vacations with their motor home and trips to Hawaii, Mexico and Panama Canal. Ash was a wonderful husband, father and friend. His family always came first. He was a handyman able to fix anything. He was a long term member of Sunnybrook United Church, The Elks and The Royal Canadian Legion. Ash will be lovingly remembered by his wife Hazel of 47 years, his three children Shauna (John) McGillicky, Brent Chantler (Elisa); Leanne Beaton, and his five grandchildren, Travis (Beth), Allison (Dillon), Krista, Austyn and Ariss. Cherishing his memory is his brother Walter (Bernice), sisters Dorothy Herr, Mildred (Herman) Lesser; Vi (Ed) Matlock, extended family and many friends. Ash was predeceased by his parents and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at Sunybrook United Church, 12 Stanton Street, Red Deer with Rev. Mary Ellen Moore officiating. A private family interment will follow at Alto-Reste Memorial Gardens. We would like to thank the staff of Valley Park Manor for their dedicated care.
