In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Barb’s passing at the age of 86.
Barb was the daughter of Alice and Hugh Gilchrist of Red Deer, AB. She grew up in Red Deer where she completed her schooling, and soon after joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. She returned to Red Deer and joined Alberta Government Telephones (AGT).
Barb had many hobbies which included active participation for many years in her favourite sports, curling and golfing. For something completely different, she enrolled in Clown School where she learned to harness her natural fun-loving spirit into entertaining crowds at community events.
She enjoyed camping, travelling, and watching a variety of sports including being a 50-year season ticket holder for the Edmonton Elks. She especially enjoyed trips to the UK, specifically Scotland to visit the land of her dad’s heritage.
Barb was a community recognized super volunteer. She was an active participant in the ‘pillow makers of AGT’ for 30 years. She was an avid dog sitter of all breeds. Teaka and Mr. Bentley brought years of joy to her home as family dogs.
Barb was a friend, a volunteer, an aunt, a sister, a colleague and she will be dearly missed. Her memory will remain and be loved by those whose lives she touched.
We would like to thank Touchmark at Wedgewood long-term care home for their compassion and kindness in taking care of Barb. Donations may be made to your favourite charitable organization.
A remembrance celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Glenwood Funeral Home, (52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB).
