BEN JAMES

October 29, 2004

JAMES, BEN F. Feb 28, 1915 - Oct. 20, 2004 Ben died peacefully at Clover Bar Lodge in Sherwood Park at 89 years of age. Ben was born in the Balmoral area in Red Deer and began farming there in 1934. He married Esme Wrigglesworth in 1944. Ben loved nature, often telling stories about his animals (especially what his clever pigs had done to frustrate him!) He planted and harvested 55 consecutive crops before moving off the farm into Red Deer. He and Esme moved to Sherwood Park in 1990 to be closer to family. There Ben quickly endeared himself to many residents and enjoyed playing pool each afternoon. He loved to laugh. In his old age his favorite saying was "the trouble with not doing anything is that you can never stop and take a rest." His simple faith in Jesus Christ radiated as he enjoyed singing old hymns. He was predeceased by brothers Alfred and Charlie and sisters Evelyn (Sutherland) and Carrie (Mowat). He is survived by his faithful wife Esme, sons Dennis (Gwen) of Calgary and Al (Sharon) of Cavendish, P.E.I., and daughter Charlotte (Neil) Parker of Edmonton, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Louise and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held in Sherwood Park. Donations in his memory may be made to World Vision, 6630 Turner Valley, Mississauga, Ontario L5N 2S4. Condolences may be mailed to Serenity Funeral Home, 5311 91 St. Edmonton, AB. T6E 6E2.
